Shaney Watters
I can not pretend to feel impartial about colours. I rejoice with the brilliant ones and am genuinely sorry for the poor browns. -W. Churchill
Born in Ohio, Shaney Watters then spent her childhood in a small village in the Netherlands. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in two dimensional media from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma,Washington in 1995. She then went on to earn her Masters Degree in Psychology with further post graduate studies in Art Therapy.
Shaney set aside her own creative endeavors while pursuing her career as a Marriage Family Therapist. But ultimately realized that an important part of her was missing and made a return to art making after a dozen years. In 2011, Shaney signed up for an adult painting class and hasn’t looked back since.
Influenced by nature, in particular her reverence for the Animal Kingdom, Shaney is inspired to create her colorful and whimsical abstracted animal portraits. As a mixed media painter, she is unable to imagine declaring loyalty to just one medium. Within the layers of her paintings one can spy stain, acrylics, gold leaf, colored pencil, and oil paint, all topped with shiny resin. Her joyful work can be found in homes of collectors throughout the United States and her latest achievement is being elected as the President of the Pasadena Society of Artists, an association with a rich 96 year history.
